The Energy Bunker is a project of the International Building Exhibition IBA Hamburg. Built in 1943 as an anti-aircraft bunker, it offered thousands of people protection from Allied air raids. After the internal demolition by the British occupation in 1947, the block in the park stood unused for more than 60 years. It has now been refurbished by the IBA Hamburg and expanded into a regenerative power plant with large heat storage tanks, taking into account the aspects of monument protection. The innovative use of the bunker is an important milestone on the way to a renewable energy supply for the Elbe islands.
